Ruth Bussmann invites us to observe, granting insight into a fleeting, private moment.

 

Ein Mädchen steht am Rand, die Augen geschlossen, die Hand tastend ausgestreckt. Die Szene wirkt wie ein Standbild aus einem Film – ein eingefrorener Moment zwischen Unschuld und Konzentration. Licht und Schatten zeichnen feine Streifen über das Kleid, als wollte das Bild andeuten, dass es noch eine zweite Ebene der Wirklichkeit gibt.

Ruth Bussmann arbeitet mit dieser stillen Ambivalenz: Die Figur bleibt in sich versunken und entzieht sich dem Blick, und doch zieht sie uns gerade dadurch hinein. Wie bei David Hockney oder Edward Hopper entsteht das Gefühl, Beobachter eines fremden, intimen Augenblicks zu sein – ein Moment, den wir nicht stören dürfen.

Ruth Bussmann works with this quiet ambivalence: the figure remains absorbed in herself, withdrawing from our gaze, and yet it is precisely this that pulls us in. As with David Hockney or Edward Hopper, there arises the sense of being a witness to someone else’s intimate moment – a moment we must not disturb.

Sebastian Menzke takes us into an office full of movement.

In Büro verdichtet Menzke Farbe, Struktur und Erinnerung zu einem vibrierenden Spannungsfeld. Das Werk wirkt nicht wie ein Abbild, sondern wie ein Resonanzraum: Magenta und Violett öffnen Tiefe, Türkis kühlt und balanciert, eruptives Orange treibt als Lichtquelle die Bewegung nach vorn. Diese Konstellation ist kein dekorativer Effekt – sie steuert Temperatur, Rhythmus und Blickführung, sie hält den Betrachter in Bewegung.

Das Interieur – Lampen, Kabel, Stühle, architektonische Fragmente – ist hier kein realistisches Setting. Es ist vielmehr Spur und Zeichen, eine Partitur aus Fragmenten. Raum wird nicht „gefüllt“, sondern „geschrieben“. So verwandelt sich das Büro in ein Gedächtnisbild, in dem Arbeit, Ordnung, Unterbrechung und Neubeginn gleichzeitig anwesend bleiben.

Die Oberfläche selbst trägt diese Zeitlichkeit: Schichtungen, Übermalungen, Kratzungen, bewusste Brüche. Jeder Eingriff bleibt lesbar, jede Korrektur schreibt Geschichte ein. Was aus Street-Art-Praktiken stammt – Layer, Masking, Cut – wird in die Tafelmalerei übersetzt. Man sieht nicht nur, was ist, sondern auch, was war und was hätte sein können.

Menzkes Biografie – von Produktdesign über Street-Art in die Malerei – prägt das Werk. Tektonisches Denken trifft auf malerische Offenheit. Volumen und Fügung verbinden sich mit Reibung und Überlagerung. Aus dieser Kombination entsteht ein zeitgenössischer Raumbegriff: kein nostalgischer Rückblick, sondern ein Interieur als Wahrnehmungsmaschine.

Büro ist ein Bild, das nicht stillsteht. Es fordert den Blick, ordnet und irritiert zugleich, erzeugt eine produktive Unruhe, die Gedanken öffnet. Es ist analytisch zu lesen und zugleich unmittelbar zu spüren – ein Werk, das Zeit und Raum nicht darstellt, sondern erlebbar macht.

In Office, Menzke condenses color, structure, and memory into a vibrating field of tension. The work does not act as an image of reality, but as a resonant space: magenta and violet open depth, turquoise cools and balances, while eruptive orange drives the movement forward as a source of light. This constellation is not decorative – it orchestrates temperature, rhythm, and perception, keeping the viewer in motion.

The interior – lamps, cables, chairs, architectural fragments – is no realistic setting. It is instead a trace, a sign, a score composed of fragments. Space is not “filled” but “written.” The office becomes a memory image, in which work, order, interruption, and new beginnings remain simultaneously present.

The surface itself carries this temporality: layers, overpaintings, scratches, deliberate seams. Each intervention remains visible, each correction inscribes history. What originates from street-art gestures – layering, masking, cutting – is here translated into panel painting. One sees not only what is, but also what was and what could have been.

Menzke’s biography – from product design through street art into painting – shapes this work. Structural thinking meets painterly openness. Volume and construction connect with friction and overlay. Out of this combination emerges a contemporary concept of space: not nostalgic, but an interior as a perceptual machine.

Office is a painting that refuses to stand still. It challenges the gaze, orders and unsettles at the same time, generating a productive restlessness that opens thought. It can be read analytically and felt immediately – a work that does not depict time and space, but makes them tangible.
